Spidersaurs is a Sidescrolling Platformer in the form of Contra, but instead of fighting Aliens, you fight genetic engineered Dinosaur and Spider hybrids.
These where created to counter the lack of food.
The presentation of the Game is really good with the graphics and the voice acting. But gameplaywise it's a little odd. You see, you can shoot in eight directions and the enemies (some types of them, can shoot in a 360° Circle, so in more then one case, you have to dodge a bullet and can't get in the right angle to shoot the enemy. But luckily you can pick up weapons, that either got splash or scatter damage, so you can still hit them IF you got such a weapon on hand.
You can have a total of two weapons equipped, so you can keep two types of weapons on hand to counter certain situations. But if you die, you lose the active weapon. Which is also a mechanic that Contra used, since you lost your weapon and reverted to your peashooter.
In all honesty, i tried the game on medium, but with the many enemies that can shoot straight at you, while you can shoot back (if there is a bad angle), i started a new session on easy and there i actually had my fun.
The game still got it's challenge, but you have fewer enemies and i even think a slower fire rate of the enemies. You also start with 5 Extralives instead of 3.
If you lost all your lives, you get kicked out the level and can restart the level from the start. So this is fine in my eyes and with some determination you can force your way through each level. Or you can play through the Game on Easy and start a new run on Medium, since you got experience with the levels and enemy placements, this is also a goot approach.
I think the game is overall good, when you expect a Contra Game with a more playfull setting.
But i also wished, that the game would give you some graphic and audio settings and that you can close the game on the map screen. It's kind of weird there, you can either Alt+F4 out of there, or you start a level, pause the game and go back to the Titlescreen from there.
