Splatoon 2: Duck Duck Duck Goose in League Splat Zones [16(2)-8, Custom Splattershot Jr]
Now this is a meme team I can get behind! Mainly because those blobbles are a pain in the neck, but look at them, they're all so cute! I start with my classic flanking move on Blackbelly Skatepark, going up the wall for nothing this time, but managing a splat from behind before everything gets a bit hectic. I go one way, run in to trouble, head back the other way, and find even more trouble. It's almost a relief to be splatted.
Super-jumping to the hidden flank looks relatively safe, but having Bloblobbers on the central column is pretty daunting. I head back the way I came to start building a foundation of ink, and to give more options for throwing Chickens on to the column. I risk a trip to the top of the column, thankfully finding no Bloblobers on there, but finding one squidding up the wall. I neutralise one Splat Zone, but the other remains orange, and I can't shoot enough ink whilst dodging the blobbles to change anything. Both Splat Zones turn orange again, and I am stuck trying to get splats in the middle of a Suction Bomb Rush.
The Ducks and Goose are rather dominating so far. I head back down the flank to try to get behind them, doing quite well this time, bagging two splats and capturing one Splat Zone. I take a moment to try to see where the ink is coming from, but just when I get back in to the action with another splat, a stray blobble catches me. Still, at least my squidmates have returned and we finally capture the Splat Zones. There is hope. I try to keep the ink flowing, looking mostly at the Splat Zones, but watching for opportunity to quell the orange ink. It gets tricky when you have to be so careful when encountering the Bloblobbers. I drop in front of one, and the face-full of blobbles doesn't agree with me at all.
Another outing, another attempt to ink the Splat Zones stopped by blobbles blobbing everywhere. I have to be more aware of them, and jink to the sides rather than rely on the blobbles stopping. It seems to work, as I survive my next encounter, but it's a bit more difficult to pull off at range. Rather than battle the Bloblobbers directly for the moment, I get some height and just ink the Splat Zones as best I can, which is pretty well with a Splattershot Jr. The blobbles start coming my way, of course, and despite trying to jink sideways, I am still mostly moving towards the one aiming at me. It doesn't end well.
A Point-sensored Duck chasing a squidmate looks like a good target to get me back in to the battle, but they do not give chase with as much tenacity as I'm expecting, leaving me just sitting in front of them as they lob blobbles my way. It's like I've learnt nothing. I try to claim the column as ours again, and maybe could have if there were just the one Bloblobber up there, or if I backed off when things looked bleak. In the end, it's just another short outing with nothing to show for it. Now we're in the last minute of the battle, and we have only scored five points. We need to shift gears soon, or we're done for.
I try to be more cautious again, building a foundation of ink and using cover to jink unpredictably, whilst throwing Chickens to keep the Bloblobbers off the central column. It seems to do the trick in the short term, letting us throw ink all over the Splat Zones to get our score going again. I use more elevation changes to throw off the blobbles, and although I am surrounded by blobbles for a few worrying moments, they have no walls to bounce off and I'm okay!
More inking and jinking, and another splat follows. One more after that is a bit lucky, as the Bloblobber's aim is just a bit off, and as we enter extra time the Splat Zones are purple and the Bloblobbers are not around. Is there still time? I ink the walls of the column to make it harder for the Ducks to reclaim, and throw an Ink Storm there way for some added disruption. Two Ducks fall in front of me as they throw themselves towards the Splat Zones, their lead finally threatened, and that lack of caution is all we need in the closing moments of the battle. Our score closes with theirs, and overtakes it, stealing the lead right at the end. Woomy!
