Thoughts and previous pre-release poll results:
Feel free to elaborate on your poll selection. Poll conducted for research purposes.
Like in the previous pre-release poll, this is only being conducted under the Nintendo Switch, by far the most active of the Starlink related forums on GameFAQs.
This is most certainly due to the inclusion of Fox McCloud from the Starfox series.
But on YouTube of course, the poll is open to all 3 consoles. YouTube Poll Cards however, allow for a maximum of 5 choices.
Composition and results of the previous pre-release poll titled: 'Poll: Nintendo Switch, Starlink: Battles for Atlas, 2-player splitscreen support.' posted Jul-24-2018:
'I've noticed that sources indicate Starlink's to feature 2-player splitscreen support. Thought that was a big surprise since the game's described as open world. How important is this news for you?' - Results (81 votes)
It's extremely important news!58.02% (47 votes)
Of significant importance.16.05% (13 votes)
More or less important.8.64% (7 votes)

It's of no importance at all!3.7% (3 votes)

Thus this poll is meant to find out how much the feature of splitscreen has been actually used.
Available only on consoles, Starlink is an open world game taking place on a 7 planet solar system. It features 2-Player Co-op support via vertical splitscreen. Online Co-op of any kind however, is not featured.
To my knowledge, open world games with splitscreen appear to be quite rare. 7 Ways to Die and Ark: Survival Evolved (XBox One version) are the ones that come to mind. Do you know of any others?
I'm unsure about the said two others, but Starlink features 'tether', a mechanic meant to keep the Wingman within a certain distance from the Wing Commander.
Most likely, this is to prevent unforseen variables that may result due to being separated in an open world containing story elements. Starlink allows for seamless in-flight entry and departure from planets. Overwise, it may simply not be technically feasible.
Anyways, I figure the technical challenges for implementing splitscreen in a game like Starlink must have been significant, particularly, for the Nintendo Switch version.
In multi-platform games, I feel it's not a guarantee for the Switch to end up having the same splitscreen (or any at all) in a game where it does have it on the XBox and PS consoles. Managed to predict GRIP: Combat Racing having only 2-Player splitscreen max, whereas on the other consoles, 4-player splitscreen is available.
Of course, the Switch shouldn't have any problems with what I refer to as lighter multi-platform games, such as kart style racers.
So again, feel free to elaborate on your poll selection about how much you had found yourself using splitscreen in Starlink.
Thank you for your participation and game on!
