So the finale dropped and good GOD it had some definite problems. WHY did the plot need Star to commit to her "destroy magic" plan? She had to break her own character to do so, and she only even came up with it because she was stuck in her Heroic BSOD, which redflagged its idiocy right away. What we get is something where while the Starco ship is only a scapegoat target, that much is a luxury for fans of the Savvy Guy Energetic Girl trope and/or people with other reasons to have wanted Star and Marco together.
Really, the real problem goes back to Star Butterfly--STAR BUTTERFLY--going with an easy way out solution to defeating the Solarian Warriors, without even lasting consideration for its own consequences. The narrative hadn't even forgotten that Hekapoo would die without magic, but it certainly forgot about the likes of the Laser Puppies, which means the ending has Fridge Horror anyway. And yes, this when the last minute, when Marco and Star get to meeting again, already has a comedic stunt where one of the people stirred into panic by the results of the ending trying to imitate Final Fantasy 5 was eaten by a venus fly trap from Mewni. ON-SCREEN. Star, couldn't you have talked the whole mess out with Marco, see if he could help you come up with something better? Because seriously, this just feels unearned.
I can agree with complaints that making the finale into a 22 minute venture instead of 45 minutes did it no favors, but Samurai Jack's own finale didn't extend past 22 minutes either, which does warrant some complaints of its own, but Ashi becoming Ret Gone because of lineage problems was inoffensive at worst. Star VS The Forces of Evil? Maybe it's used to 11 minutes/episode, but it still doesn't excuse having the Genki Girl just go with a solution that screams rage quit.
