Starfield, New Atlantis, & The Failed Utopia
52When you hear the name Atlantis, you probably think of the mythical lost city, but that’s not really the concept of Starfield’s flagship city New Atlantis. Its name is actually a perfect match for an unfinished 1620s manuscript by philosopher Francis Bacon. It’s also called The New Atlantis, and it’s about an island utopia.
By comparing Bacon’s work with Starfield’s city, we can understand how to better work toward this “perfect society.” New Atlantis isn’t the immaculate settlement it appears to be on the outside, so it’s important to think about how these problems can be improved.
