Streets of Rage 4: ESA Summer Online event Arcade Mode Hardest S Rank speedrun in 54:51 (IGT)
One month after my $1000 win from the official Streets of Rage 4 tournament I decided to submit this game to European Speedrunner Assembly.
The category I submitted was based on the tournament rules. I got to try and speedrun the game on Hardest difficulty but the catch is that I have to aim for an S Rank.
The score requirement to hit S Rank on Hardest is 395,000.
I usually get roughly 70,000 bonus points after beating stage 12 based on my time and lives remaining.
The event is usually done on-site in Sweden but due to Covid-19 all of the runners did their runs at their respective homes.
What happened to the webcam?
One of the rules for the event was to have a webcam running to simulate the experience of ESA. I didn''t have any modern webcam devices other than some old Logitech webcam around early 2010s. My smartphone did have iVCam, a free to download app which the computer would pickup and act like a webcam feed. I was using a Wii Sensor bar stand to keep the phone at a certain angle aiming slightly upwards but if I turned on the light it would show a big light next to the phone's camera lens and turning on one of the ceiling lights would show a yellow glare from the light bulb.
I don't stream on Twitch with the webcam on and I didn't want to spend £75 on a Logitech C920 webcam just for this. I wouldn't mind if it goes down to as low as £25 as it did last November's Black Friday weekend but the worldwide Covid-19 virus may not drop the price anywhere near as low as £25 when it hits November this year.
