The Punisher (Arcade) playthough - CPS 1.5 Public core on MiSTER FPGA.
A follow-up to my previous video Cadillacs & Dinosaurs.
This game is notably shorter by having 6 stages instead of 8 and the fights feel a lot more methodical, the generic enemies are notably different too.
Knife guys are genuine threats at certain places.
This version is played on the Japanese version not because of shorter text but because the flaming jump kick attack was REMOVED in the international releases. It does mean that diehard PCB colllectors will have a hard time getting the better version as the price for the US version goes as high as £1000 on ebay.
So about the MiSTER:
The MiSTER FPGA is something to think about during the 2020s. In the recent years, 2D sprite based games games that are more demanding than the 16-bit era are making an appearance to the MiSTER. Neo Geo MVS/AES, Arcade CPS1 and recently CPS Dash (dubbed as CPS 1.5 for being CPS1 with Q Sound support).
On December 12th 2020, CPS 1.5 core had a public release which is quite a big deal as some of the arcade games have never made an arcade perfect re-release. The core is currently not flawless(?) but it's a very playable build,
I didn't noticed any visual glitches when playing The Punisher which is very promising.
There's only 5 games released for the CPS Dash arcade platform including:
Cadillacs and Dinosaurs/Cadillacs Kyōryū Shinseiki
The Punisher
Warriors of Fate/ Kurau II: Sekiheki no Tatakai (arcade port has been released on CAPCOM's 2018 Beat em Up bundle).
Saturday Night Slam Masters and
Muscle Bomber Duo: Ultimate Team Battle (it's an updated version of Saturday Night Slam Masters).
