Styx Master of Shadows - A buggy first look
A quick early look at Styx, I got busy with some other stuff, so I didn't play much of it. The horrible checkpoint system doesn't help.
===============
Frozen in action.
By angling on a downward slope after extinguishing a torch, Styx can be frozen in a falling pose. Also it can just happen randomly.
===============
Enemies stuff
The ragdoll freezes after landing, and some collisions can make for a side entertainment, if one is into those.
An enemy clipped into a wall while in dead animation, while another grabbed Styx through a solid wall.
An enemy lured out of his track, his AI either trying to get him back to his intended location, or just running his patrol on his new spot, facing a wall.
===============
Clone stuff
By hiding after puking out a clone, when the clone disappear, there's a chance the camera can get messed up. Kinda like a security cam, sometimes getting a better view of the surrounding.
Hanging on a detachable stuff, have the other body detach said stuff. The hanging body remains hanging in midair.
Killing off the clone while hiding a body can mess up the animation, and the hiding spot cannot be interacted with.

Crashes, enough said.

Free for PS Plus on July 2015 in my region, including Entwined and Guilty Gear Xrd concat random word. While Entwined is almost philosophical the first time playing it, I don't intend to play it beyond that. Styx however, doesn't attract me from the cover image alone, me being somewhat particular on the visual of this kinda stuff.
There's some noteworthy stuff about it, like say jumps are not entirely prompts, so I can mess up my jumps, a mechanic I dearly miss these days. The environment feels expansive without being just empty, fun to explore if just to find the more preferred route to the objective. Collectibles are not shown in the map, requiring efforts is a plus. Checkpoint apparently saves practically everything in the map, including enemies alert status and location, though that effed me up with reloading into 4 alerted guards hot on Styx's tail.
However, everything else is lacking. The models are rudimentary with bad stock-like animations. AI is basic. "Battle" is a joke, as Styx can easily be locked into one and die from unlimited throwing knives from every direction. Collectibles serves no real purpose besides some extra upgrade points and achievement. The checkpoint rarity is not punishing as it is as well as just be random, coupled with the loading time and ease of dying (mostly from "battle") renders the game almost unbearable for me.
Seems like it wants to imitate Assassin's Creed formula without the formula. Where it tries to implement new elements to make it its own, it severely lacks polish.
