Succubus: Prologue - Promising...? First impressions | GAME REVIEW
Madmind Studio is back at it after the difficult development and publication process of Agony. By most standards, Agony was a disaster. And in their own way, Madmind acknowledged this and sought to fix the game with Agony Unrated. While Agony Unrated was an improvement over the original game, it was still a frustrating and severely-underwhelming experience. It seemed as if Agony was so preoccupied with trying to shock players with sex and violence that this objective came at the expense of virtually everything else--demonstrating that these premises would be inadequate building blocks to support the rest of the game. Lesson learned?
My hope is that Madmind will take a different approach to Succubus. Decrease shock value as a selling point and focus on well-crafted, action-oriented gameplay. What do you want to see?
I was pleased to see that Succubus takes a very different approach to gameplay, placing it in stark contrast to the Agony games. Succubus is combat oriented--where you focus on slicing and blasting your way through hordes of enemies. The level design also seems to be an improvement--hopefully putting to rest the convoluted and frustrating designs of the past.
