PREVIOUSLY:
Before they could reach the border of Muse and Matilda, Riou's party arrives at Highway Village where they meet a travelling mercenary named Humphrey, and a former dragon knight named Futch.
Futch meets up with his friend Kent, who asks him if he was really a dragon knight before. Futch then shows him a dragon scale from his previous dragon Black as proof, and promises that if he ever owns a dragon again, he'll let Kent ride it to the skies.
On the next day Kent learns from a farmer about a dragon in Rakutei Mountain. The overjoyed kid quickly rushes to the mountain with the hopes of seeing the mythical creature. Everyone in the village soon finds out about Kent, as Riou and his party accompany Humphrey and Futch to the mountain.
Upon arriving at Mt. Rakutei, a magic barrier prevents the party from moving further. With the powers of the Bright Shield rune however, the mist dissipates, and they continue on their way to find Kent. As the party reaches the top of the mountain, A harpy appears before them. They manage to defeat the winged beast with their combined strengths, as Kent regains consciousness and insists that the rumors of the dragon at the peak were real.
The party soon finds a dragon egg sitting at the top of the mountain. Kent tells Futch to take care of the egg, but the former dragon knight refuses, stating that Black was the only dragon for him. Humphrey decides to kill it since a dragon without a guardian might turn wild and inflict harm on people. Futch stops him from doing so, as the egg hatches, revealing a white dragon inside.
Humphrey convinces Futch that owning a new dragon is not a betrayal to his previous one, and that he should not be closing his doors to a new future. Futch then pets the newly hatched dragon, and names it Bright.
The party accompanies Kent back to the village, and to repay Riou for his deeds. Humphrey and Futch joins the Dunan Army in the war against Highland.
