PREVIOUSLY:
Riou and the others meet Hix and Tengaar at the Kobold Village, where the two discuss about the Unicorn's test with the village chief. The Kobold leader tells the couple that such custom is no longer being done anymore since its dangerous going through the forest, but insists that they spend the night in the village for their efforts travelling there.
The next day, Hix finds Tengaar sick in bed, which according to the village chief, is due to the Unicorn's curse, and can only be cured by gathering three rare items. Riou's party accompanies Hix to retrieve the Blue Stone, Red Flower, and Green Bell from South Window City, Cave of Wind and Two River Sewers respectively.
The group returns to the village but discovers Tengaar is gone. They traverse through the village forest with the three rare items in possession, and make their way to the heart of the forest, where they find Tengaar, along with the village chief and the rest of the kobolds who helped in Hix's trial. Tengaar then reveals that it was all just a setup, but praises Hix for his courage, putting himself in harm's way for the sake of saving her.
After the village chief states that the Unicorn's test is all just a myth, a voice can be heard as a unicorn then reveals itself from within the trees. The unicorn threatens to attack the group, and although Hix knows that he might not win against the mythical creature, he raises his sword, willing to put his life on the line to defend his partner. The unicorn then disappears, its voice echoes from a distance, wishing them both good fortune, signifying that Hix has passed the test, becoming a true warrior in the process.
Everyone returns to the village, surprised that the Unicorn's test was actually real. They all rejoice for Hix's accomplishment, and Tengaar then suggests that they join the Dunan army in order to repay Riou for his help. The Bright Shield Rune bearer accepts them to the group as they make their way back to Dunan Castle where they regather with Shu and the others. The army strategist then reveals that although they have successfully gained an ally in Two River, there is no time to rejoice. He tells everyone to recuperate for the rest of the day, and he will explain in detail on the next morning.
