SUIKODEN II (#1 - A Promise Made) - Sloth Plays
0Three years after the fall of the Scarlet Moon Empire, the war between Highland and Jowston in the north has cooled, with a peace treaty now signed between the two nations. Best friends Riou and Jowy, members of the Highland Army's Youth Brigade, are eager to see the war end and return home.
However, Luca Blight - the ruthless Prince of Highland - reignites the conflict by massacring the Youth Brigade camp, and blaming Jowston for the attack. Riou and Jowy flee the camp, promising to reunite there once the war is over, before leaping into the river.
Two passing mercenaries, Viktor and Flik, find Riou and rescue him, but Jowy is nowhere to be seen. Viktor decides to take in Riou as a temporary prisoner of war, assigning him various tasks around their fort. Jowy eventually finds Riou at the fort and tries to help him escape, only to be captured himself.
Eventually, the two are able to befriend Viktor and the others, casting aside their lingering allegiance to Highland in light of Luca's current spree of abominable crimes.
(We take a detour into Matilda via the infamous 'Gate Glitch', to recruit Futch and Humphrey, acquiring midgame gear and gaining a bunch of levels in the process. Also, if you ignore Jowy's suggestions to jump during the prologue, and continue to fight the Highland troops 108 times, the opening will be in full color. Neat!)
