Comparing an early section of Suikoden 2 for speedrunning. I used a SCPH-77001 model PlayStation 2 Slim and a SCPH-90001 model PlayStation 2 Slim. These models are typically the fastest for running PlayStation 1 games as they are some of the later (and latest for the case of 90K) models to be produced.
For Turbo/Auto-Fire of the text, a Fujiwork Kiwami was used at 30Hz or 30 inputs/second. This is a point of inaccuracy in these tests admittedly as at least my Fujiwork Turbo Controller does not seem to run at a consistent rate. That said, it is as close to consistent as is feasible and this game calls for it as it runs in 60FPS (Frames Per Second).
From seeing what transpired in this, these consoles are rather close in this section. I have my eyes set on some other parts to compare in the future. And as far as whether or not these are faster than PSTV, it is perhaps too early to say. I believe both are at least within the realm of getting a comparable time. The current World Record Holder, Z3R01337, gets a relatively similar time for this section at ~3:39.72-3:40. This however was done without the advantage of auto-fire. If I do land my hands on a PSTV, it would be possible for me to compare all three side by side with using Turbo even on PSTV with the proper setup.
And as one slight aside, apologies on the game audio during the Opening Credits and Reminiscence song. It is an unfortunate effect of playing this beloved gem on either of these consoles as well as other PS2 models that a small number of tunes are heavily botched. It is a true shame as Miki Higashino's work is at its finest here, but alas. Maybe that is the sole reason to run on PlayStation TV :)
