Sukumi Force! [すくみフォース!] Game Sample - PC/Doujin
Footage of the rare Doujin game, "Sukumi Force!" (aka "Swimsuit Force!", "sukumi" in this case being a play on the shorthand for "sukumizu" which describes the typical Japanese school swimsuit) from the defunct Doujin circle, Nepia World. Released in 2008, it is more of a mini-game than a concentrated effort where the goal is simply to last as long as you can by defeating enemies and the occasional boss enemy. Not sure I should be showing this game as it tasks you with selecting one of your two "wives" who look like they're no older than ten and I don't want the FBI at my door...
Jokes aside, the game is actually a bit similar (in theory) to one of their older games, Mimipan (The Mimi Panzer). In this game, the goal was to play as a long winding series of tanks that combined the aesthetic of the old "snake" game (where you avoid running into obstacles or yourself) with a shooter and have to aim your special weapon in the opposite direction you're heading. SF's main premise is that you can't attack things directly, but you can make "ripples" by swimming which repel enemy fire. This means typically rushing past or away from enemies and is a pretty straight-forward system once you get used to it, with the gameplay taking place on a 360-degree sphere. Each character has a different ripple pattern and max speed; the titular Sukumi makes one large ripple directly behind her which is good for attacking while retreating while Hikae creates two smaller ripples to her sides which is good for sweeping (but leaves her back vulnerable). Defeating enemies and bosses yields fruit which can be grabbed for extra points, but they disappear pretty quickly. The game has numerous phases which rapidly scale in difficulty and the aim is to see how long you can last.
The game is a little hard to control, and looks and sounds decent for what it's worth. There isn't really much more to say than that, but it's one of Nepia World's last games and flew under the radar as they were a pretty popular Doujin circle back in the early 2000s. This is a video of the game showing the attract demo and short gameplay. Enjoy.
