Summer Funland | Review | A Great Introduction To Virtual Reality
19Summer Funland is a nice package of polished mini games and on rails experiences themed around an amusement park with a vr twist. I certainly wouldn't say its for everyone, in fact it really doesn't bring anything new to the table to vr that you haven't had before in VR, unless your new to it and that has to be its strongest selling point.
When talking gameplay its got a variety of different mini games that will have you slashing, climbing, swinging, shooting, and more. The mini games themselves go from carnival games like wackamole and skee ball to one that will have you riding a unicorn jousting through targets in a warping tunnel full of colors and lastly it also has on rails rides which have to be the star of the show for me the bike ride through Gotham was awesome and the underwater one has to be my favorite on rails experience in vr that I have tried so far. Movement around the park is done by teleportation.
Content wise it has 15 activities to go through in all, most of these are a one and done experience. Sadly the lack of leader boards really hurts its replay-ability to me and it only took me about 2 hours to get through them all and that's with me replaying a few a couple of times.
Visuals and immersion is where this game shines. graphics look beautiful and the game does an amazing job at giving you a sense of scale only possible with VR. going underwater and seeing the tall ancient runes is great to see, climbing up the tower and seeing the amusement park you were just as look so tiny is great to really see and experience that sense of scale.
Overall the game isn't anything new and i certainly wouldn't recommend it if you've already been a part of the VR community for a while. It wont provide you any new experience you haven't had before, you wont be coming back to it after trying it all out, but if your looking for a good show piece look no further. This game remains on my hard drive solely for that reason. Its a relatable experience that gets exaggerated and more grand in scale thanks to VR.
