Dick Wilde 2 | Review | Mutant Swamp Shooting Action
15Dick Wilde 2 is the sequel to the original Dick Wilde which is a wave based shooter for VR that being said i cant help but feel disappointing by the sequel.
The game play is traditional wave based shooter, you'll be shooting ducking and dodging enemies and their projectiles but in this case it really felt very bare, the gameplay is hindered because the guns behave very similar, most of them come down to tapping as fast as you can or holding them down throughout a whole level. Mid way through levels your allowed to choose a different path but once again is really just more of the same with a different lay out. Your also able to buy stat boosts or guns during the checkpoints but once again what should be an enjoyable part of the game doesn't really change much when the gameplay feels and remains the same even when you buy a different gun.
Content wise it offers 3 worlds to get through with multiple levels and challenge levels that are used to unlock new guns being added to the store for you to buy at checkpoints, with that said the challenge levels are the same as a traditional level so it adds very little variety to the game. The best part of the content has to be the boss levels at the end of each world. The game does feature cross play support so you and one friend can go at it down the rivers together and you can earn hats to customize your avatar with.
Visually the game looks good, as do the guns and overall atmosphere but the guns lack that creativity that was put into them in the first game and the levels them selves look way to similar only really changing when you get to the next world and even then sort of feels like a variation of what you have seen before. Immersion also takes a hit as the gameplay is really unengadging as its just constant non stop shooting and leaning left in right without much thought being put into it.
Overall I was left dissapointed with the sequel and it makes me sad as I actually do like a good wave based shooter and the first one is one I was really fond of since it was one of the first games I played in VR. I hope to see some more creativity being added if they do patch in content such as the guns from the first game or new wacky designed but right now i cant recommend it over the original. I cant help but feel this was designed as an arcade vr experience first.
