HyperCharge: Unboxed is a Coop First person shooting wave defense game where you take on the role of an action figure and you have to defend your hyper cores from being destroy by an invasion of evil toys.

The gameplay is your standard shooter type with the addition of some platforming elements and base building. The game splits between 2 phases, one for building and setting up your defenses like lego barricades, plastic posion ivy, hot glue and more. During the build phase your able to collect coins used for constructing these defenses as well as fine hidden collectibles that require quite a bit of platforming to reach. The second phase is the action phase where you will be fighting of hordes of various toys each with their own strength, weakness, and behaviors. Right clicking allows you to zoom in but there is no aim down sights in this game. There are attachments that appear at random through your mission that can give you an alternate fire or an addon for your gun to provide a stat bonus. At the end of a mission you will be awarded with XP and a rank based on how much health the cores were left with. My only real complaint with the gameplay was that the climbing can act up at times and cause you to work your way back up to where you fell off.

Hypercharge Unboxed also features quite a bit outside of native ultra wide support. It has up to 4 player local split screen coop, private matches, a server browser, and tons of customization options to unlock like character skins, gun skins, and different playable action figures. The game is currently in early access and includes a good amount of missions with the promise of more to come, the developers have also stated they plan on adding a PVP game mode and more PVE content down the line.

Visually the game is beautiful, the graphics and art style look amazing and I did have someone walk by quickly taking a look at the game thinking it was a toy story trailer. The variety in enemy toys really is a great addition because of the nostalgia factor it gave me, a lot of the toys where things i played with in my child hood. The audio works great and shooting the robots has a very pleasing shut down sound play when they get destroyed. Environments of each level are different and unique with my favorite having to be the toy isle. There's a lot of great jokes and references to be found littered throughout like the pc master race subreddit opened up in the bedroom, or the zerg rush deodorant in the bathroom. Performance wise i had no issues playing and no graphical issues from playing in ultra-wide either. The UI and menus can be scaled but does not have full customization in terms of placement

Over all I enjoyed my time with HyperCharge: Unboxed, Its easy to see the developers at Digital Cybercherries put a lot of work into making this game and cared about their product. Its not perfect and could certainly use some more levels but for its asking price I would say it fulfills in giving enough content with the promise of more to come and offers a good amount of replay ability. If you dont take my word for it feel free to check out the stream review section with lots of players who feel the same way. My biggest gripe with the game was not being able to find enough players online off peak hours and thats saying something.

Thanks for checking out the review, its my first attempt at making one in the ultrawide format, so please if you can drop me some feedback on what you think I could do to make it better feel free to do so.
