Sunrise Anime Super Data File サンライズアニメ大全史
An older obscurity from my Japanese shelves.
Before the internet let me learn every trivial little bit of knowledge on a myriad of subjects I didn't need to bother with, we had to use things like this... physical books! Doubly so if it was stuff in a language you weren't able to type directly on your keyboard as the internet started to grow- I remember having to pick up a copy of a Japanese font pack for my computer back in the day to type up documents for school and when my wife and I got married since there was no native support. So it was a bit of an ordeal compared to today to say the least.
So this book... this was a major cipher for my family in figuring out who and what were in a lot of the older Super Robot War games, and what we should be keeping our eyes peeled for back in the olden days of swapping fansub VHS tapes.
From a mecha fan's eyes, Sunrise were the champions. They were responsible for a bulk of the "classics" and in the 90s were still on a solid roll with some high quality shows.
It was also cool realizing where a lot of the models we built as kids came from. There's some definite forgotten treasures in here.
Flipping through this I'd forgotten how prolific the Dirty Pair were in the 90s. They were all over the place!
Sadly I never got the companion book on Tatsunoko Productions. I saw it once in person, it was a bit overpriced, and I never stumbled across it again, at least not for ungodly sums of money.
