(Super CD 60fps) Bonk's Revenge - to Round 3-3 ~ Duo-R-ventures #15
The first Bonk game, Bonk's Adventure, has a lot of intense flashing effects; fortunately, they took those out for the sequel, Bonk's Revenge, so I can actually play this one. : ) The versions of these games that I have are both on a Super CD-ROM² disc that came as a pack-in with the Turbo Duo; the disc also has Gate of Thunder and, secretly, Bomber Man.
I haven't really been able to get into platformers in any significant way since the classic Super Mario games, but Bonk's Revenge is pretty fun, and also not terribly difficult, at least through stage 3-3, which is as far as I got on one continue (then it gives you a bunch of continues!)--although it was starting to show things like tricky moving platform and spikes slippy slidey ice jumping puzzles near the end of that. : o
While I find the core jump/bonk mechanic a little less intuitive than I would like--it's certainly not Super Mario's wonderfully simple jump-on-their-heads, and the exact trajectory of the dive part of it, or something, seems to elude me somewhat--there's still a lot of good solid fun in the game, and certainly a bunch of colorful characters and stages.
