After driving out Valentina from Nimbus Castle, Mallow is now recognized as the prince of Nimbus Land. Because of this, Mario can now visit the royal hot springs, and they enter Barrel Volcano, where they come across many opponents, including a group known as the Axem Rangers as they go for the Star Piece.

Time to continue with the game, and you can visit the royal hot springs, and you can have Mario stay in there for a while, and he turns red from the hot temperatures. Then continue on to Barrel Volcano, and there are some new enemies there, most of which are stronger version of enemies we have fought before, the first one is Magmus, which is a redder Magmite, they have high Defense and are weak to magic attacks, most of the enemies there are weak to Ice attacks. Then for the most powerful variant of Spikey, it is Urspike, as in Urchin and Spike, but in the original game, it was called Oerlikon, these spiky enemies have good attack power and defense, and they resist Mario's Jump attacks. Next up is Armored Ant, a more powerful version of Shogun, they have high Defense and are weak to Ice attacks, and they use Vigor Up when alone. Lava Babble is a more powered up version of Lava Bubble, it was called Pyrosphere in the original game, and they can use Flame Stone. Then we have Chained Kong, a variant of Guerrilla and is called Barrel Kong in Japanese, it is basically Donkey Kong but with chains and without the tie, they have high attack power and HP. Next up is Vomer, like Dry Bones, they can only be defeated with special attacks, in Japanese, they are called Karon Zetto, or Dry Bones Z, Karon is the Japanese name for Dry Bones.
Then for the two new enemies, the first one is Stompillar, or Corkpedite in the original game, Stompillar has great physical stats, and it has 200 HP, while the Body has 300 HP, if you defeat the Stompillar before taking out the Body, it will use Migrane, a mortal blow where it defeats itself. Defeating the Body, this will also defeat the Stompillar, the other enemy is Stumpet, which looks like a large tree stump formed by cooling magma. It uses Backfire to deal damage to one party member, and Va-Va-Voom to charge up and unleash fireballs to deal massive damage, Stumpet has 500 HP.
For the volcano itself, there are some items you can find, mostly flowers, and one section has a Frog Coin where you have to reach it by jumping into the lava. Near the end is Cinder Toad, who runs a shop and an inn, the Cinder Mart sells the Fire armour items, and you can see in his shop models of F-Zero machines and an Arwing. Another bit of trivia, Cinder Toad was called Hinopio in the original game, which translates to Fire Toad, Kinopio is Toad in Japanese.
Time to make it to the end, and we fight against a bunch of boss fights, the first one is Czar Dragon, formed by many Lava Babbles, it has 1400 HP and is weak to Ice attacks, it can summon Helio, small orbs with low HP but a lot of attack power, and Czar Dragon can use Iron Maiden to deal a lot of damage, this enemy kind of resembles a Blargg from Yoshi's Island in dragon form. After defeating Czar Dragon, it is time for round two against Zombone, this time it is weak to Lightning, and it is weak to the Pure Water, it attacks with Boulder, Blast, and Storm.
With Zombone down, it is time to collect the star, but not before the Axem Rangers show up to take it, and we follow them to their ship, the Blade, and time to fight them.
Time to go over the Axem Rangers, this is my favourite boss in Super Mario RPG, each of the Axem Rangers have different stats, Axem Red is the leader and the well rounded one, he is weak to Ice, Axem Black is the speedy one that can attack twice, he is weak to Lightning, and can use Spritz Bomb to counterattack. Axem Yellow is the big guy with high attack power but low magic, and he uses Body Slam to counterattack, and his weakness is Jump attacks. Axem Green is the spellcaster of the group, and he uses moves like Meteor, Solidify, and Static Electricity, his weakness is to Ice, and Axem Pink is the healer of the group, she can heal her allies, and her weakness is to Fire, and she can inflict status with Petal Blast. I recommend taking out Axem Pink first, then Green, then Black, then Yellow, and take Red out last. Then it is time to take on the Blade, it can use Breaker Beam, which is a very powerful attack, and once it it used, it cannot attack on the next turn, the Blade is weak to Lightning attacks.
With the Axem Rangers down, it is time to collect the sixth Star Piece and make it back to Nimbus Land and tell Mallow's parents that we have found the Star Piece, and that one more remains, and the only place that is left is Bowser's Keep, which is where that large sword crashed down to.
