Following the Venusaur Tera Raid Event, next up is Blastoise, and during this event, you fight against a Blastoise with the Steel Tera Type in the 7 Star Tera Raids. Another thing to let viewers know, there will not be a Surprise Trade video for this week. These Tera Raid Events were announced in the Pokémon Presents, and the Charizard repeat run will happen next week.
During the event, Blastoise has a Steel Tera Type, and its moves are Hydro Pump, Flash Cannon, Aura Sphere, and Iron Defense, and its extra moves are Withdraw, Shell Smash, and Rain Dance. Blastoise uses Withdraw at the start of the battle and then puts up a shield, at 75% HP, Blastoises uses Shell Smash, and at 75% time, it resets its own stats, it does do that against at 50% HP, and around then it uses Rain Dance, at 60% time is when Blastoise resets your stats.
What makes this really hard is that Blastoise puts up its shield at the start of the battle, and as it knows Iron Defense, physical attacks are not that effective against it, and while it would be good to lower its Special Defense, Acid Spray has no effect on Blastoise, the best strategy is to try and remove the shield. The best counter that I found to work is Vaporeon with the Fire Tera Type, the strategy is to use Calm Mind about three times, set up Sunny Day, and use Weather Ball, and after three uses, Terastallize to deal extra damage, and when Blastoise resets your stats, set up Calm Mind and then use Weather Ball through Sunny Day to take it out, Tera Blast is a backup move, Vaporeon can get Fake Tears and Mud-Slap which can come to use. As I saw many players using Vaporeon, I have Blissey for a backup option, it has Light Screen to support its allies, Life Dew to heal allies, and it can also activate Vaporeon's Water Absorb and Gastrodon's Storm Drain, so for anyone using Gastrodon, Life Dew can help give it the boost it needs.
To list other counters, Gastrodon with a Ground Tera Type is helpful as its Storm Drain not only makes it immune to Blastoise's Hydro Pump, but also gives it a Special Attack boost. For options listed on the site that I use to check counters, it lists Gallade as a counter, as it can use Sacred Sword to get past Blastoise's Defense boosts with Sacred Sword, and it can use Mystical Fire and Light Screen, and while Poliwrath with Water Absorb is one, the downside is that Blastoise will boost its Defense to +6, making Poliwrath less effective, unless you equip a Scope Lens and try for a critical hit Drain Punch. If you want a Pokémon that can lower Special Defense, Espathra can be a good Pokémon that can come to use, it knows Lumina Crash, which will always lower the Special Defense of the opponent, there is your alternative for those that like to use Acid Spray, and it is has Opportunist, Espathra can copy Blastoise's stat boosts from Shell Smash and Iron Defense.
To go over Blastoise, it does learn many good attacks, like Wave Crash, Shell Smash, Aura Sphere, Dark Pulse, Flash Cannon, Earthquake, Ice Spinner, Body Press, Rock Slide, Crunch, Dragon Pulse, Focus Blast, Weather Ball, Flip Turn, and many others, and it can get Water Spout as an Egg Move. Steel Tera Type on Blastoise is great for defense, while it does power up Flash Cannon, Blastoise is more preferred offensively due to Shell Smash, it can be a physical attacker with Wave Crash, Earthquake, Ice Spinner, and Crunch for options, or a special attacker with Hydro Pump, Surf, Ice Beam, Dark Pulse, Aura Sphere, and a few other moves, the best Tera Type to go with on Blastoise on Shell Smash sets is Electric to give it a way to take on opposing Water-type Pokémon with Tera Blast, Dark can be good for powering up Dark Pulse, Ground can be good for physical sets that use Earthquake, and Water can make Blastoise's Hydro Pump hit even harder. In Tera Raid Battles, Blastoise is a Pokémon that requires support, while it does get Shell Smash, the downside is that Blastoise lowers its own defensive stats, it will need allies that can set up Light Screen or Reflect and moves like Heal Pulse or Life Dew to restore HP, its Hidden Ability of Rain Dish does heal its HP while the rain is active, but Torrent is usually preferred to give Blastoise some extra power when its HP is low.
