Super Mario RPG (Switch) Playthrough 2: Mallow's Lost Item
Mario has arrived at the Mushroom Kingdom, and after his visit to the Chancellor in Peach's Castle and telling him about what had happened at Bowser's Keep, he then finds Mallow, who had something stolen from him by a crocodile-like thief, and they go after the thief who went to Bandit's Way.
As for the rest of the description, I recommend watching the full video before reading past this point of the description
Last time, Mario arrived at the Mushroom Kingdom, and I did check the shops and the inn, but what you have to do is enter Peach's Castle, but before that, I find a hidden Flower Tab at Mushroom Way. As I stated in the previous part, I do like the music for Mushroom Kingdom, and it was remixed in Fortune Street, the name of the song is called Hello, Happy Kingdom.
When you enter the castle, jump on Toad's head and there is a hidden treasure which gives you a Frog Coin, in the original game, this was a missable item, if you didn't collect it, that was it, there was no way to obtain it. There were two hidden treasures in the shop's basement if you jump on the head of the elderly Toad, one is a Flower, and the other is a Signal Ring, which alerts you of any hidden treasure, in the original game, you couldn't obtain the Signal Ring until late in the game.
When you enter, talk to the chancellor, and I like how Mario transforms into Bowser and Peach and imitates different actions to explain what happened. Then we get a tutorial on how to equip accessories, then another Toad shows the vault, which has a Mushroom which restores HP and FP, a Flower which increases FP, and a coin, the small ones give one coin, and the large ones give 10.
When Mario leaves the castle, he then witnesses a fluff boy named Mallow chasing a crocodile thief, and for some reason, whenever he cries, it starts raining.
After talking to Mallow, he joins Mario on the adventure, and we then learn that the crocodile had stolen a wallet from one of the residents on the Mushroom Kingdom. To go over Mallow, he is a frog, or so he thinks he is one, as he looks nothing like a frog, he is not the best attacker physically, but he has good magic attacks, his first moves are Thunderbolt, which costs 2 FP, and it hits all targets, and Thought Peek, which was previously known as Psychopath, Mallow would learn this at Level 6 in the original games, but in this game, he has it right away, and this allows you to read the enemy's mind and learn their current HP, weaknesses, and a bit of character about them. At Level 3, he learns HP Rain, which heals one ally for 2 FP.
Visit the shop to get a Pick Me Up, this revives a fallen ally, and you can buy equipment, the Shirt, which increases Mario's Defense and Magic Defense, and the Pants which is the same, but can be equipped to Mallow.
Time to chase down that crocodile, he is a Bandit's Way, and I like the music for that place, the song is called Anger Aplenty on the Journey. This place has the common Goombas and Spikeys, but a new enemy we can find is Frogog, its Japanese name is Richard, which is a reference to Prince Richard from The Frog For Whom the Bell Tolls. Frogog is weak to Fire and Lightning, they have high HP, and they can use Bubble Shot which deals 50% more damage. The next area has a hidden Croaka Cola, which is a reference to Coca-Cola, in the original game, it was called Kerokero Cola, it recovers the HP and FP of all party members. Another new enemy is K-9, its full name is Blueish-Tinged Gray K-9, but due to character limitations, it is just K-9, they attack by biting, Howl inflicts fear, which cuts attack and defense in half, and Fangs deals 50% more damage than usual. You can find blocks which move if you step on them, and one area has a Super Star which you can use to defeat several K-9s, and you do get experience for beating them. The fifth area has us chasing down the crocodile thief, you have to sneak up on him three times to battle him, he is called Croco, and he has 320 HP and a weakness to Fire, you should have Mario at Level 3 as he learns Fireball, and you can use that to make Croco waste a turn, and with Mallow, you can use him to heal Mario when his HP is low with HP Rain. Fireball was called Fire Orb in the original game, and for Croco's moves, he has Weird Mushroom to restore 60 HP which he has below 100 HP, and he has Bomb Toss. This battle isn't too hard, and after that, Mallow will then take the coin back from Croco, and we also get back the wallet, and you can use the map to warp back to the Mushroom Kingdom, the original game had a trampoline that sent Mario back to the beginning, but it was removed because you can go to places using the map.
