Is is time for Round 2 of the Gym Leader Castle in Pokémon Stadium 2, and like in the first game, you need to have completed Round 1 to unlock it. In Round 2, the Trainers are a lot harder, don't expect to use type matchups, as the AI does like to switch Pokémon when at a disadvantage. While the Violet Gym only uses Flying-type Pokémon, the Gym Leader does make use of their secondary types to cancel out weaknesses. You will need strategy for this one, the team I went with uses Haunter for Destiny Bond, Koffing for Explosion, and Wobbuffet is there if needed.
The Violet Gym only has two Trainers, there is Bird Keeper Matt, who uses only Flying-types, but he has brought some new moves onto his Pokémon, and Falkner this time is not an easy opponent like he was before, as I have stated that his team is more balanced, and this is not Round 1 anymore.
I will list each Trainers, and the nicknames of the Pokémon, with the species name of the Pokémon in brackets, as well as their held item.
Battle 1: Bird Keeper Matt
Ottoash (Pidgeotto): Mirror Move, Gust, Quick Attack, Steel Wing (Sharp Beak)
Geticash (Togetic): Mirror Move, Psychic, Fire Blast, Zap Cannon (PRZCureBerry)
Fearash (Fearow): Mirror Move, Drill Peck, Tri Attack, Quick Attack (Mint Berry)
Farfash (Farfetch'd): Mirror Move, Fly, Slash, Flail (Stick)
Owlash (Noctowl): Mirror Move, Take Down, Steel Wing, Confusion (Metal Coat)
Krowash (Murkrow): Mirror Move, Drill Peck, Faint Attack, Quick Attack (BlackGlasses)

Battle 2: Gym Leader Falkner
Pidgeot: Mud-Slap, Double-Edge, Steel Wing, Sky Attack (PRZCureBerry)
Dodrio: Mud-Slap, Tri Attack, Drill Peck, Sky Attack (MiracleBerry)
Gligar: Wing Attack, Metal Claw, Sludge Bomb, Quick Attack (Focus Band)
Charizard: Mud-Slap, Flamethrower, Fly, Earthquake (Scope Lens)
Skarmory: Mud-Slap, Steel Wing, Drill Peck, Sky Attack (Quick Claw)
Zapdos: Mud-Slap, Thunderbolt, Drill Peck, Sky Attack (BrightPowder)

You might see that some Pokémon have moves they don't normally learn from level up or TMs in Gold & Silver, in Round 2, you will start seeing Pokémon that have Egg Moves, the best example for that is Murkrow, which can only get Drill Peck as an Egg Move, same with Skarmory. Other moves included are Pidgeot with Double-Edge, which is a move it can only learn in the Generation 1 games through TM, and Zapdos has Thunderbolt, while it is a TM in Gen 1, it is also a Tutor Move in Crystal.
Time to go over the opponents, Bird Keeper Matt has Mirror Move on all of his Pokémon, and his Farfetch'd has the Stick to increase the critical hit rate of its attacks, Noctowl, Togetic, Murkrow, and Farfetch'd learn Mirror Move as an Egg Move. The Gym Leader does not mess around this time, from looking at his team, he has Gligar to nullify damage from Electric-type moves, Skarmory to take neutral damage from Rock and Ice-type moves, and he has Zapdos, which shows that not even the first Gym Leader you fight is to be taken lightly. Falkner does always use Zapdos, and all of his Pokémon except for Gligar have Mud-Slap to reduce your accuracy. For items, his Charizard has the Scope Lens to boost the chances of critical hits, Skarmory has a Quick Claw to give it a chance to strike first, and Zapdos has a BrightPowder, which increases evasion when held. Most of Falkner's team have Sky Attack, this is an Egg Move for Skarmory, and a Gen 1 TM move for Pidgeot, Dodrio, and Zapdos. I even checked to see if Gligar can learn Mud-Slap, and it cannot in this game, but it does have Wing Attack and Metal Claw, both of which are Egg Moves for Gligar, this shows that the increased difficulty in Round 2 has given the Trainers more variety in attacks.
