I am playing through Classic Mode with Robin, and what I do is I randomize a list to decide my next characters to play as, the playlist will display the fighters in order of how they are displayed on the roster. Robin's Classic Mode route is Thunder and Flames, and on that route, he fights two characters, one that uses electricity, and the other that uses fire, likely to reference the two spells Robin uses, Thunder being electricity, and that eventually becomes Thoron when fully charged, and Arcfire being the fire spell.
To unlock Robin, there are many different ways, one of them is through Vs. Matches, where Robin is the 53rd character to be unlocked, and he is the 5th character unlocked by completing Classic Mode with Kirby or anyone in his unlock tree after Zelda.
In Round 1, your opponents are Pichu and Charizard, and the stage is Pokémon Stadium, in Round 2, you fight against Zero Suit Samus and Roy, and the stage is Coliseum. In Round 3, your opponents are Pikachu and Incineroar, and the stage is Pokémon Stadium 2, in Round 4, you fight against R.O.B. and Ken, and you fight them on Norfair. In Round 5, you fight against Dr. Mario and Bowser on Mushroom Kingdom II, and Round 6 is different to all other rounds, because in that round, you fight against the Robin of the opposite gender to the Robin you are playing as, and the stage is Arena Ferox.
Next is Bonus Stage, and after that is a boss fight against Master Hand, and if you are playing on Intensity 7.0 or higher, you have to fight against Crazy Hand as well.
After that is the credits, and the music is Id (Purpose), the new remix, I remember Id (Purpose) played on Robin's Fighter Showcase Video, and it also played on Chrom's Fighter Showcase Video as well. You unlock the Fighter Spirit for male Robin after completing Classic Mode with him, the Fighter Spirit for female Robin can be obtained through the shop, and they use their artwork in this game, this is because Robin does not have official artwork in Fire Emblem: Awakening, and their artwork in Fire Emblem Warriors uses their artwork from Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U.
