Super Strike Eagle - Super Nintendo - Intro & Mission 1 Gameplay, Impressive Mode 7 Title [4K60]
One of the most technically impressive games on SNES with its incredible use of mode 7 graphics to show scale and depth. Even today it does hold up fairly well as one of the best combat flight simulator games on the system. Granted it isn't the smoothest SNES game out there, with different elements of the game all running at different frame rates.
In the end what you get for the SNES is a very realistic feeling game for the system, something that may surprise people considering the console's limitations. Each mission sees you launching from a base or carrier and your aim is to destroy strategic targets to complete the mission. The gameplay is broken up into different sections pending on what you are doing. So there is the take off and landing sections, plane dogfight gameplay, bombing run target attack and a world map view to navigate and avoid incoming missiles.
While the opening mission is fairly short, later missions get much larger taking place over land and sea. Resupplying fuel is also something you have to do on later missions and the landing mode never gets any easier. On top of the main objectives there are many secondary targets on each map, hitting these will also help you, as taking down an air field or missile silo prevent the enemy from deploying fighters and missiles.
It's a tough game and one you will need to practice, yes it has dated to some degree. Even now it's still impressive to see and play on SNES. Certainly one for the combat flight fans out there and credit to MicroProse for creating such an impressive game for the system.
