Blade Runner - PC - Intro, Act 1 gameplay and discussion on the 1997 point & click classic [4K60]
We brave the the bleak dark future of November 2019 or next month, as it so happens to be, in the PC title Blade Runner, based on the cult film staring Harrison Ford and directed by Ridley Scott and in turn based on the Philip K. Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Westwood Studios developed the game Virgin published it, the game itself is a side story that runs parallel with the events seen in the film. This includes cameos and mentions in-game of most of the characters from the film in one form or another. With a few of the original cast Sean Young, Brion James, Joe Turkel and more reprising their characters from the film.
The plot follows another Blade Runner called Ray McCoy who is called out to an attack on a high class pet business. The plot soon takes plenty of twists and turns as you find yourself hunting replicants, however, it is left to the player to decided if to retire them or help them in their struggle.
The game ended up being as ground breaking and as cult as the film was in the video game industry. It was a point and click adventure with multiple choices and ending pending on the players playing style. It also randomly selected some elements each playthrough, so no two playthroughs were quite the same. Something even most modern titles in the genre don't do.
Making Blade Runner still very much leading the genre in design. After Westwood Studios were sold to and closed down by EA. It seems the source code for the game was lost. Due to the many licenses involved it hasn't been available for sale in over a decade and nor does it install on modern operating systems. That is until the recent ScummVM release of 2.1.0 which now supports the game. That is the version shown in this video.
