We here at #SuperOldGameSaturday celebrate Halloween each year in October with our annual Halloween Block of seasonally fitting games, but for 2025, we have to start it now to cover everything you wanted to see this year. On the request of imlaughingtodeath, our first Halloween Block game for this year is the start of our play of MediEvil, the 1998 PlayStation semi-comedic horror-themed 3D adventure game from Sony Computer Entertainment Cambridge starring Daniel Fortesque, an undead knight given a second chance at becoming a hero with the return of the evil sorcerer Zarok who shot him down 100 year earlier. Now with Gallowmere under attack from reincarnated creatures, it's up to Sir Dan to save the land from Zarok's terror and destroy enough enemies to fill up the chalice to reach the Hall of Heroes to gain new power-ups and, ultimately, his place in the legendary hall. For Part 1 of our play of this distinct and detailed game (via its downloadable PlayStation 3 port), myself and our best chat on Twitch went into everything we had about it, along with discussions about the game's creation, its influences, its remakes, the era of PlayStation games positioning themselves like movie releases, its deft mix of humor and horror, the TV show Absolutely Fabulous (which there IS a reason for with this one) and much more (though fair warning; there are some strong flashing light cases in the 4 hour range of this show). We had a great time starting this one, which we'll return to for the finale a bit closer to Halloween on October 11th, and I once again thank our chat for adding to this show and, of course, to imlaughingtodeath for this great request.
