#SuperOldGameSaturday - Rez Infinite (PlayStation 5)
Recorded/Aired On June 7th, 2025
For our 6th entry of SuperOldGameSaturday 2nd Chance, where we return to a game we've already played as a celebration of our 5 year anniversary, I pulled out the game that I came up with the idea for this show segment to begin with. When we played Rez, the 2001 Dreamcast/PS2 flight shooting music hybrid from Tetsuya Mizuguchi and United Game Artists via its 2008 Xbox 360 edition on this weekend 2 years ago, there were microphone issues that marred most of the show, which crushed me, especially since it was a viewer request by ElecVerse. I've always wanted to play this terrific game again to address those problems, so our return to Rez is via its now definitive version, Rez Infinite for PlayStation 5 (it's also om PC, PS4, Oculus Quest and mobile platforms). I made sure we did NOT have audio problems this time and, along with showing off all of the content from Rez that we covered the first time, we also dove into Area X, the new Unreal Engine 5-powered mode exclusive to Infinite that acts as something of a sequel to this terrific game and further shows just how much of a work of art Rez truly is. I knew that I loved this game before, but Infinite and our play of it here made me realize exactly why, including in ways I never thought of before and, as joined by our best chat on Twitch, we had a great time going into our memories/thoughts on this game, other works of the artists formerly known as United Game Artists and Q Entertainment (and now known as Resonair), other aspects of philosophy and artistry in gaming, some ideas I have for our 2026 monthly initiative for our great weekly show and even a sneak preview at the developers' upcoming game (and another upcoming release that I'm psyched over). I had great time return to Rez with this show and again, I'm sorry we had issues the first time, but I now feel like I finally brought ElecVerse and everyone else this classic to our show at our very best. Again, thank you for your support and for joining us on this journey and I hope you soak in and cherish our play of Rez Infinite (and if you like what you see, stop by https://www.twitch.tv/captainditrag/ to see these streams live, join/help drive the conversations on what we play each week and see the schedule for our next show, which is this Saturday, June 7th, at 3 PM EST)!
