It's time for the first of 3 viewer requests for August 2025 we're playing here on #SuperOldGameSaturday, where we're starring with a 16-bit gem from 1991 requested by Ajayy42 that also marked our first roguelike (or roguelite) game on the show. It's ToeJam & Earl for Sega Genesis, starring the two aliens in the name who come from the planet Funkatron and are all about sick beats and 90s attitude. However, when Earl crashes their spaceship into a meteor, they fall down to Earth where it's up to him and ToeJam to get their ship parts back to return home, all while dealing with Earthlings getting in their way and opening presents that could help and/or hurt them. After a few weeks of prep and me coming off of an illness, myself and our best chat on Twitch went through all 26 levels of this unique Genesis cult classic, going into our memories of this game, the series and much more, all while seeing what creatures we ran into and presents we opened on this strange, but still indelible journey. Oh yeah, and we were REALLY chill and relaxed for this play, which goes to the great vibe this game can put you into, which we did go all the way on, including showing off how random play works (though, on Ajayy42's request, the play of the game was in fixed world mode), what the game's unique 2-play experience is like and of course, taking some time to Jam Out. I had a great time going through this and hanging out with everyone and I once again thank our chat for this show and, of course, thank Ajayy42 for the request.
