Sword and Buckler versus Sword and Shield
A nice little battle between me and Steve.
I was going to use the round shield, but really wanted to test my Black Fencer Portuguese synth.
Double central!
The Buckler does lack the surface area to allow me to concentrate on working around Steve's shield.
As you can see, Steve does an excellent job of locking out my sword arm with his shield, meanwhile delivering a nice, low strike that I'm simply not able to react to quick enough with the buckler.
Having a shield myself, I may have been able to absorb a hit or two, however the buckler is simply smaller and doesn't give me that kind of protection up close.
I do manage to utilize the buckler at one point to grapple Steve's sword arm, this was a bit scrappy, but really effective.
Another time I manage to get completely between Steve's sword and shield and deliver a strike to the head with my buckler, which was just abit of fun really.
Bucklers are much more manoeuvrable, so in close combat they do have some advantages in 1-on-1. However against a shield you're simply at an overall disadvantage defensively. So moving around and using that extra mobility is key to victory with Buckler versus Shield.
