Sabre versus Rapier and Dagger sparring
3Nice light bout with Dave, always a challenge!
Fighting against the rapier and dagger makes my whole gameplan go out of the window. Finding the perfect balance of getting just inside range past the rapier, but not too close that I attract the dagger...
I didn't do too bad here, obviously Dave won by a landslide, but I didn't take a single hit from the dagger, and quite a few of the cuts I received were light. Only a couple "kill shots".
In a lot of tournaments, cuts with rapier only count for one point too, so as much as I would prefer to avoid doubles completely, they do work in my favour here.
The main thing that let me down here I would say is I was thinking offensively, I don't back out of range nearly as much as I should have after attacking. Seeing as I need to get just within range, but I can't drive in deep to get past the rapier without meeting dagger, there's a bit of a sweet spot that I simply havent fully worked out yet.
Ahh well, just means we'll have to keep trying!!
