True fight.
Pretype:
One of my favorite fights in the game hands down; Senel's solo may have been a little messy because of its ease, but because Jay has no throws to spam and gather ludicrous damage from, this is a battle of endurance.
Walter is one dangerous mothertrucker. He's as fast as Jay is, who is the fastest moving character on the screen (faster with Ghost Blade), and only needs one combo to decimate an attempt because of Blizzurd. Fun stuff.
Walter alone isn't a threat since you can play with his horribly telegraphed AI. First move is his basic attacks, then Hallowed Wings/Wings of Slaughter, and always recovers using Roar of the Sea. Wings of Slaughter is easily run-throughable/never-should-be-caughtable-byable. Wings of Hallowed Doom is HARD to dash through the first attack, but it is possible. Other than that, easy recovery time, TP and heart rate, and awesome quotes. The same applies for Hallowed Wings, except less downtime.
The difficult part is the massive learning curve that starts at the Terrors and arcs extremely sky-high starting at Walter. Learning the sweet spot of dashing through his techniques is the most you will get out of this fight besides learning how to position oneself (unless you're actually good at fighting Gaets...HRNG). If you dash too soon, you'll get caught by his Tales of Symphoney hit detection with combos, and if you dash too late, you'll end up taking them to the face. Walter is amazing practice for Maurits, who has the same, if not harder hit detection attacks with his spear...mmm and that voice actor.
Thankfully for me, most of the time Walter is spent casting away; Flame Cutter, Indignation, Thunder Blade (with the exception of Time), Aqua Laser (when I don't use Guardin because of Spread confusement), and Volt Arrow are all hilariously easy to deal with. Thunder Blade, Spread, and Blizzard are the real issues; Thunder Blade requires a GIGANTIC area to run away from it, which is crazy fun to play with because of the technicalities in the battle that require you to pay attention to the boss AND your surroundings. Love it.
Spread is...spread. Instant, hurts like hell if you don't mash the down button while holding the good ol' Square button when you hear him say "SPUREDOH!!!!!!!!!11SHIFTONE!" and is just downright annoying because Aqua Laser shares its blue casting aura around Walter. Great stuff.
Blizzard is the second worst spell he's got. Deals four, high damaging hits, impossible to counter like Spread, only casts it past 50% health (or 25%, I don't even remember), and Walter can only be interrupted with a pre-mature iLL wIND and a full combo. Which...is tough.
But yeah. All of that explaining, all of that moaning and bitching is the culmination of why this is one of my favorite fights in the game. The mood and atmosphere with various quick-ended fights with Walter previously in the game, his rivalry with Senel to protect Shirley because of his Fate when he was a child, it's all good. The foreboding music fits here than anywhere else, I believe; nothing else makes you feel the tension between two rivals so perfectly. Ah well, that wraps this guy up. The remaining bosses excepting Nerifes disappoint me to the point of breaking down in tears and writing ill-mannered letters to Namco...

Yeah. This was fun as hell. Jay's lack of healing weapons. Disappoint. Loved the practice for the upcoming disaster.
