The final game for Namco System 1, Tank Force is the sequel to Battle City (arcade/Famicom) which itself is preceded by Tank Battalion (arcade/MSX).


Once again, you guard your HQ from the enemy tanks. If the HQ is destroyed, it's an instant game over even if you have lives left. Every 4th round is a boss battle. In the other two games of the series, being careless could result in the base being destroyed by your own friendly fire. That is not allowed here. Items pop up such as a force field for your tank, hardened walls for the HQ, bonus points, 1-up, time stop, and an air strike (a large bomber comes in to clear out all enemy vehicles). More kinds of enemy tanks appear. There are heavy tanks with a flame shot that cannot be negated by your bullets.


Tank Force was ported to Nintendo Wii in 2009, but that version never appeared outside Japan and is no longer available. Namco Museum for Nintendo Switch has this game, and it is available worldwide. Sadly this new NM hasn't been brought over to PS4, Xbox One, or PC.
