The main time save in this run is the use of the warp pad glitch. This glitch is made possible by two mechanics: First, when you reach the end platform with both characters to end a level, the game will set your progress to the next level on the first frame and on the second frame it will clear the flags stating that the current level is over. Second, you can navigate between already completed levels by using L+dpad. Using these two facts, if you can use L+dpad to navigate to the next level on the exact frame that the game sets your progress to the next level, you are placed in the next level BEFORE the game clears the flags stating that the current level is over. The results is that the next level is skipped.
Originally this glitch was thought to be only useful in Any% categories because even though the warp pad glitch allows you to skip levels, you would still have to go back to those levels to grab the gems that are required for 100% completion. However, it was recently realized that skipping the level and then coming back for the gems is still significantly faster because you don't have to actual complete the level and can just take the most direct route to each gem. In total, this glitch is used 9 times in the run where you are basically skipping every other level since you have to complete a level in order to do the glitch and skip the following level. This leads to several minutes of timesave.
