In the beginning of the Cosmic Century, Earthlings were driven away from the surface and into the bottom of the ocean by the Space Demon King Mandler and the monsters under his control. In order to regain the lands blessed by the sunshine and green trees humanity formed the Earth Recovery Army Terra Cresta, which sends the combat interceptor Wing Galiber to recapture the parts left on the hangars in the ground and defeat Mandler.

The player must shoot down the incoming enemy craft in the air and on the ground. The game uses a unique powerup system:

Ground-based silos bearing numbers appear at regular intervals, these can be shot to release a ship upgrade component, which then attaches to the player's current ship, increasing both its size and firepower. Every numbered component the following abilities:

1 (Alpha): This is the Wing Galibur, the default craft and the fleet’s lead ship. It fires twin projectiles from the front.

2 (Beta): This doubles both the Galibur’s firepower and its size.

3 (Gamma): Ship number three gives the Galibur tail guns, enabling it to shoot behind as well as in front.

4 (Delta): The fourth ship provides a concussive beam that tears through smaller enemies and inflicts greater damage on larger enemies.

5 (Epsilon): The fifth ship generates a force field behind the Galibur, protecting it from attacks from the rear.

Using the 'Formation' button splits the ship components into a wide formation for limited time, giving increased fire power. The number of parts acquired determines the formation. For example, if the player has picked up two ship parts then a triangle is formed, with the player's main ship at the rear of the formation. During this, the components are invulnerable to all enemy fire, while Wing Galibur itself is not and if the Galibur itself is hit, the player will lose a life.

When all four numbered parts have been collected, the player's ship transforms into a firey Phoenix and is indestructible for a limited time.

While Terra Cresta does not have stages precisely, you will encounter bosses at certain intervals along your way through the game. Each boss is considerably larger than the average enemy and takes a large number of shots to destroy. They will begin to flash once they are close to being destroyed.

Boss 1: This is the easiest boss to fight. The blocks that appear on the end of the four spikes separate from the craft and launch themselves towards the Winger, and you can fire at them to destroy them.

Boss 2: This boss is substantially tougher than the first boss, but it doesn't attack you nearly as frequently. Small crafts fly out from the main ship which are easily destroyed, but you must concentrate a lot of firepower on the main ship itself to bring it down.

Boss 3: This final boss craft requires quite a bit of strategy to defeat. You must first shoot off the two sets of arms on either side of the main body of the ship. Then you must fire into the center until the center explodes. They continue to fire at the middle so that cockpit explodes.

The game is endless.
