Virtual Reality has a ton of games on it. I've reviewed Swarm, Asgard's Wrath, and Angry Birds, to name a few that I've reviewed and given high marks. Virtual Reality has the ability to change the way you view gaming. But sometimes, it does more than that. Sometimes, an experience obtained through VR brings you to a new level of existence in this universe. It just elevates you to a higher being to gain new knowledge. That experience has but one name. That name is Tetris Effect.

[Introduction]

Tetris has been a series for forty years now. Releasing back in 1984 in the USSR, now called Russia, the game has wowed generations with its easy-to-understand mechanics. You have these little blocks arranged in different shapes. You must arrange them into a complete line as they fall down. If you do so, the line will disappear, and you will get points. The main goal is to get as many points as possible. You can get the most points by wiping out five rows through the long block at once. That act is called a Tetris. Not planning out your lines can lead to you having a piece that doesn't fit anywhere, causing a space. Eventually, enough spaces will cause you to hit the top of the play area, and you will be done. Sounds easy when put this way, but an ever-increasing speed and an algorithm that's against you leads to many mistakes.

That addicting gameplay loop has led Tetris to be an insane hit. I mean, how many of you actually needed that history lesson? You guys know what Tetris is. The series has spawned over two hundred entries since the eighties. It has hit every platform, from the Gameboy to the GameCube, and this series is everywhere. It even spawned hilarious spinoffs such as Welltres and Hatris. The former inspired Videogamedunkey to put out his best video ever.

What a classic. Tetris inspired a highly-reviewed Apple TV+ movie based on the game's invention. Tetris is truly an incredible series. However, despite its popularity, I've never really been engrossed in the series. It's always been a fun distraction but never something to focus on. I've played on the phone and in old Arcades, but I was never engrossed. That has changed with the game Tetris Effect in VR. By George has it changed my world.

As you can see in my Meta Quest 3 recordings behind me, the game is absolutely gorgeous. Tetris effect pulls you into its hand by combining the addicting gameplay of Tetris with insane themes. These themes include crisp graphics and unique music notes that correspond to the movements of your blocks. Tetris Effect is probably the closest thing to doing drugs that I'll ever experience. I just sit there and go, "OOOO colors". With almost 30 visible and hidden stages, the game hits you with a constant change of scenery and sounds. Each line clear is an explosion of particle effects. Each level completed transforms the mind and the soul as it seamlessly switches to the next environment.

Before I jumped into the game, I had one goal. I want to try to reduce the stress in my life. During this time, I was heavily involved with a huge work project that just raises my heartbeat when I think about it. I was going to need something to relax. Otherwise, I was about to explode. At that time, I saw the trailer for Tetris Effect in the Meta Quest Store. It had such cool visuals and smooth electronic music that it put me at ease. I immediately knew this would be a nice and sweet game to reduce my stress. I wrote out my stress level as a ten starting this challenge and will record it every day after playing Tetris Effect.
I didn't realize that Tetris effect was insanely hard and gave me so much anxiety I was rocking a ten at the end of my thirty days of playing. Here is my chart for playing the Tetris effect. You can see from my notes that I jumped from calm to stressed depending on where in the journey mode I landed. I played for eleven hours, five minutes, and thirty-nine seconds and was stressed about almost everything. But at the end of it, I still wanted more. I was addicted to Tetris and its effects.

You may be wondering why the game is called that? It isn't just called Tetris Effect because of its visuals and music. The Tetris effect is actually a real phenomenon in the brain. It occurs when someone dedicates an insane amount of concentration to an activity that alters their thoughts, experiences, and dreams. This happens at work, where I focus so much on a project that I actually dream of code. It happens to my wife when she focuses on running. The Tetris Effect happened to me almost every night when I was playing the game Tetris Effect. I was dreaming about the game and was zoning out during the day with blocks on my mind.…
