We spend way too much money on things we don’t need. Whether that be cellphones, TVs, computers, or yes cameras, we often place illogical limitations on ourselves based on what we don’t have. I’ve caught myself doing the same, placing barriers down which can only be broken through with more expensive items. I could have realistically made do with what I already had, but I convinced myself that I needed something better to accomplish my goals. It was only towards the middle of last year when I begun making a conscious effort to do more with less. I filmed a documentary with a 11 year old camera that I got off of ebay, sure I had to exercise some creativity and take extra steps to make sure everything looked good, but it was possible.

So what am I getting at with all of this? Well, over the past few years I’ve noticed a lot of people want to begin a new hobby in photography, but are put off by the $1,000 price tag of a new camera. Well, I’m here today to demonstrate that, you don’t need to spend 1,000, 500, or even 100 dollars, and in fact you can begin this whole art form with a simple $20 bill.

This is the Canon D300, it cost me $20 and came with the camera body, a battery grip, a few batteries, a charger, and an 18-55mm lens. For the purposes of this video though, I’ll be using the Canon 55-250mm IS II lens as it provides a much sharper image, in addition to being easier to compose photos with, at least for me. That lens goes for about $50-60 on ebay so, you’re investing a total of $70 if you follow what I did here exactly. Though I recommend you try finding whatever is available in your price range, because this might not be the best option. The point i’m trying to get across here is that it does not matter what you use, what’s important is you get out and take some photos, which is exactly what I’ll be doing right about now.
