493Quarterbacking in board games, or, the Alpha Player, is when a player is telling other what to do on their turns to play optimally. There's a lot of ways to go about the tabletop hobby, playing to win being one of them, though sometimes it can be a less than ideal game night in a co-op board game. We've all seen that one person masterminding games like Pandemic Legacy or Robinson Crusoe, where the game turns into a dysfunctional mess like a school group project.
This board gamer stereotypes exaggerates the Alpha Player's tendency to know the ins and outs
of a board game's mechanics and gameplay, calculating how to get the best probability out of dice rolls and card draws, as well as the nuances of every character/class ability. But sometimes, you want to just get out from your seat and tell them to shut up so you can actually play the game.
Or y'know, just plays games like Gloomhaven or Spirit Island which have mechanics in place to prevent quarterbacking lmao
