Late on the 15th of February an Italian gang broke into a Vault, inside one of the most secure buildings in the Antwerp Diamond district.

The caper took 2 years to plan and the gang leader, Leonardo Notarbartolo, himself a jeweler, actually hired office space in the building to gain access to the vault.

The gang, whose members all had awesome nicknames like THE MONSTER, a musclebound expert lockpicker, THE GENIUS, a security guru and the King of Keys, who made you guessed it…keys…spent hours wrenching open the security boxes

and stole diamonds to the value of as much as $100 million making it one of the largest robberies in history

Hilariously despite its location and contents the safe itself and the security systems guarding it were so deeply flawed that no insurance company would insure the contents.

Even more hilariously after the heist, which went off without a hitch, the getaway driver…nicknamed speedy…panicked and instead of burning all the evidence as planned, dumped the bags onto a nature trail.

An annoyed Belgian hiker called the cops about the pollution and the officers soon realized what they had and quickly tracked the gang down.

Despite being caught and serving jail time the stolen goods were never recovered and the gang members are now free men, presumably with large pensions to dip into.
