The Bad Batch Episode 3 FULL Breakdown "Replacements" + REBELS Easter Eggs And Things YOU Missed
In The Bad Batch Episode Three, there’s a lot to breakdown, every war from Star Wars Prequel stuff to Jango Fett name drops to small things you missed.
The title of the episode is revealed before the episode begins and it’s called Replacements, rightfully so as Crosshair finds his place on a new elite team for the Empire just as Omega begins to fill his spot on Clone Force 99 or the Bad Batch.
The team in the episode pulls out their rations to reveal they have ration bars, the last time we saw one was in clone wars when Waxer and Boil gave them to the little Twi-lik girl on Ryloth.
Heading up that new Elite Squad is Admiral Rampart. Rampart is a new character in Star Wars with no previous history, which means if we haven’t seen him before, he probably won’t make it out of the series alive. The thing about him is with his Elite Squad only looking to wipe Gerrera’s camp out and not kill the rebels in the episode shows that he only looks to handle situations in a very republic way- even being the one to implement chain codes.
If you didn’t catch it, Tarkin mentions Project War-Mantle which is the official name for the initiative of conscripting soldiers into the Galactic Empire- Tarkin’s whole purpose in the show.
Throughout the episode, on Kamino, there are multiple clones running around in white and grey armor working security. The only other clone we really know that wears white and grey is commander Wolfe. Wolfe is in Star Wars Rebels, with his chip out, and so is Captain Rex. With Captain Rex, being a character that we will see later in the show, could the same be said for wolfe? Could this be the series where we see what happened to Wolfe and how Rex helped him get his chip out? Could he be working security on Kamino?
When the Elite Squad is dispatched to Onderon to Saw Gerrera’s rebel camp, the transport they use is Nu-Class Transport which looks alot like a miniature of the gunships that would bring clones to battle.
Something I noticed about this episode is how much better it was than last week’s. Last week’s episode was very slow and didn’t do much for the stakes and tension of the episode because episode 2 had no subplots. This episode, however, has subplots that keeps us in the loop about the Empire’s conscription plot that was started in episode 1 and will be a plot in the series moving forward- it was just not furthered or explored at all in episode 2 and that’s why it lacked entertainment- this episode learns from those mistakes.
With Wrecker’s head hurting, it’s likely that his chip is bugging him. Like Echo said, the chips in their head are defective, maybe or maybe it’s only a matter of time before they activate. I think this will become a real problem and that’s why the crew goes to see Rex because they need to know how to get their chips out like he did, and honestly learn about the chips too because not even tech understands them.
The animal that was bugging the bad batch in this episode is the Ordo Moon Dragon which I believe to be their first appearance in Star Wars lore. What’s important to note is their bioluminescence which other animals in Star Wars have like on Yavin 4, the orchid, or Umbara’s plant Zabrak Spine.
In the episode we get a flametrooper on the elite squad dispatched to onderon, and this isn’t the first time Tarkin approved a mission where a flametrooper was in stow. When Tarkin was a moff later in the Empire, he dispatched a crew of them to Agaris to burn down the Agarian’s village that was on the suburbs on an imperial compound.
The elite squad trooper that was the first to be vocal about not killing the rebels was named ES-01(if you turn on subtitles), ES standing for Elite Squad and 01 being number one.
Crosshair repeats the Good Soldiers Follow Orders motif that the clones can’t help but say when they see Jedi.
When Nala Su is walking with that taller Kaminoan, she mentions Jango Fett. Jango Fett being the optimal candidate to which the republic army of clones was based on.
Omega’s bunk is placed in the back of the ship with nothing but a curtain for privacy, kind of like in the mandalorian when Grogu’s bunk was placed at the back of the ship with nothing but a curtain for privacy.
