Smash Drums on the Oculus Quest 2 really is my favourite VR game of 2021 so far and easily, in my opinion, the best VR rhythm game since Beat Saber exploded onto the scene all those years ago. Now, a lot of that is of course just personal preference but certain things can't be denied, Smash Drums gameplay loop is exceptionally addictive & manages to perfectly captured that "just one more song" mentality whilst also giving players something meaningful to work towards and unlock in the form of new drumkit skins, songs & customisation options. I've not felt myself sink into the flow state quite like this since those early says of Guitar Hero and Rockband mania, Smash Drums is a fantastic addition to any VR owners library & I hope to see it grow and succeed over time.

In this Smash Drums review / Smash Drums Oculus Quest 2 gameplay video I'll showcase a few songs and hopefully explain just why Smash Drums has managed to capture my excitement over the last few weeks I've spent playing with it. For anyone who's been in a band, or just those who love the feeling of perfecting a song in a rhythm game, Smash Drums fundamentally nails the feeling of playing these songs in VR. Needing to hit certain beats with varying degrees of intensity adds a strategic element to the game that I really wasn't expecting, it's not enough to simply hit all the notes in this VR drumming game / VR drums game, you have to make sure you're applying the right pressure to the hits to match the intensity of that moment in the song. Timing, strength & aim are all areas you need to master if you hope to hit the covetted 5 star rating on each song (something I haven't managed to do on a single song yet) but regardless of the score you achieve you'll no doubt be returning to Smash Drums countless times because of the pure enjoyment of the experience.

If Smash Drums continues to grow & evolve it won't just be one of the best VR rhythm games but it will easily become one of the best Quest 2 games period!
