A Wild Glitch Appears! In Final Fantasy for the NES, the HEL2 spell when used in combat produces the same effect as HEL3, which makes it way more powerful than it should be.

The HEAL spell is a Level 3 White Magic spell that restores a small amount of HP to all of your party members. When used outside of combat, it uniformly restores anywhere from 16 to 23 HP to all of your party members (unless they are dead). When used in combat, it restores each individual character for anywhere from 12 to 24 HP (meaning the game chooses a random number within those parameters for each target).

The HEL2 spell is a Level 5 White Magic spell that is supposed to be a simple upgrade to the HEAL spell. When used outside of combat, it uniformly restores the same amount of HP to all your living party members, and that amount can be anywhere from 32 to 47 HP.

However, using the HEL2 spell in combat produces the same effect as casting HEL3, which is a Level 7 White Magic Spell. So both of these spells when used in battle will restore anywhere from 48 to 96 HP for each individual character.

In other words, when used in battle, the HEL2 spell is far more powerful than it should be. This is most likely just a programming oversight, but it's a bug worth exploiting! You're basically getting the effectiveness of a Level 7 spell at the cost of a Level 5 spell charge.

This is probably one of the most easily useful Final Fantasy bugs or exploits. Note that the HEL3 spell functions just as intended, and is not bugged.
