Turtle Tipping for Infinite Lives in Super Mario Bros. (NES) - A Wild Glitch Appears! #shorts
The Turtle Tipping trick is harder than it looks, because the spacing and timing can be picky, but if you can pull it off, you can rack up "infinite" lives in Super Mario Bros. for the NES. In this episode of A Wild Glitch Appear! I'll show you how to execute one of the oldest tricks in SMB - or any Nintendo game for that matter.
This trick can be performed in multiple locations, but the best place to pull it off is in level 3-1 on that large staircase with two Koopas descending it.
Avoid or defeat the first Koopa, and when the second Koopa is approaching the edge of one of the stairs, time a straight upward jump so that you land on his shell just as he is sticking over the edge. If you've timed the jump properly, Mario (or Luigi) will land on the turtle in such a way that he will kick the turtle shell back at the wall to the right, the shell will bounce toward Mario (or Luigi) and this process will loop repeatedly.
And as we all know, if Mario (or Luigi) bounces on his targets multiple consecutive times, his points will increase until he starts earning 1UPs. You typically won't get Mario (or Luigi) to bounce infinitely, but you will probably get three to ten extra lives per successful attempt. If you fall off, just jump back up again and you can usually execute the Turtle Tipping technique again.
Obviously you can't do this at the very top of the stairs or on a flat platform since there needs to be a wall for the Koopa shell to bounce off of.
Since the lives counter isn't programmed to handle large numbers, your lives total will often display as some weird symbols. In fact, I think if you have 10 or more lives, your lives total will display improperly. And while many people may think this exploit is not a glitch, the incorrectly displayed lives total is definitely a glitch.
