The Castle Crush Glitch in Donkey Kong Country 2 (SNES) - A Wild Glitch Appears! #donkeykongcountry
564This is the infamous Castle Crush Glitch in Donkey Kong Country 2 for the SNES. It's the one that has been rumored to completely brick an SNES console. While those rumors have been debunked, the glitch can delete your save data or mess with the cartridge in ways that REQUIRE YOU TO REMOVE THE BATTERY to repair the SRAM damage. But if you're playing on Switch or Virtual Console, feel free to try this one out!
Go to the Castle Crush stage in K. Rool's Keep. About 14 seconds into the level, you will see a DK Barrel near the left side of the stage. Place Diddy in the lead to prepare for the glitch.
Have Diddy pick up the barrel, then press him against the left wall facing to the left. Hold DOWN on the D-Pad and release the Y button to place the barrel on the floor, but IMMEDIATELY re-press and hold Y to pick the barrel right back up. If done correctly, Diddy will now be holding an invisible barrel.
Now, depending on where and when you "throw" that invisible barrel, multiple odd effects can result. For example, often the Rambi transformation barrel can appear, and landing inside it can cause the game to crash.
However, sometimes the Rambi transformation barrel will briefly turn you into a vibrant, multi-colored version of an act boss like Kudgel or Kleaver.
Other times - depending on which enemies are around - you can affect the placement, speed, or behavior of nearby enemies. Throwing the Neek enemy after he has been crushed by the castle is one of my favorite results.
