Turn Off Random Encounters in Dragon Warrior II (NES) - Retrogaming Easter Eggs #dragonwarrior
In Dragon Warrior II (aka Dragon Quest II) for the NES, there's a simple code that allows you to deactivate all random encounters right from the start of the game.
Start a new file and name your main character TUT (case sensitive) and choose FAST Message Speed. Start the game, and once you're through the opening prologue, you will notice that you will not encounter any random battles in the overworld or in dungeons or caves and stuff!
This code essentially shuts off the RNG entirely, meaning no random battles. But as a side effect, you will also not be able to earn lottery tickets from vendors. AND when you finally get into a scripted battle (like the fight against the two Gremlins) the game will soft lock.
But the good news is that you can turn off the effects of this code by saving your game.
If you're trying to take this code as far as possible, you can farm gold by looting any chest that respawns when you exit and re-enter the dungeon. I recommend the two chests containing 41 Gold and a Wing of the Wyvern in the Lake Cave. The Wyvern Wings sell for 60 gold each, so looting these chests a few dozen times nets you enough gold to outfit your Level 1 party with some quality gear.
I learned about this code from my guy @UCanBeatVideoGames - • #DragonQuest2 Dragon Warrior II - NES...
