The Evil Within 2 - Part 6
0So how to follow the first Evil Within? The first was a challenging survival horror romp that was creepy, intense and well written. However, it was clunky and the difficulty spikes were beyond silly. The second has taken all reviewer feedback on board and improvements have been made in practically every way.
The story was far more interesting and engaging - Evil company uses technology from the first to rebuild Stem around the main character's daughter who is integral to it's running. Shit gets weird and they send him in to fix it. He must rescue his daughter in the nightmarish world that she has been manipulated into creating. One full of weird monsters and psychotic characters.
Less linear thanks to it's sandbox design, Controls are smoother and the thrills are there. It was a hugely tense game, and the combat was great. My only issue with the game isn't really an issue at all - but TEW2 relies on more than a couple of borrowed ideas from games like The Last Of Us (movement and combat), and Resident Evil 4 (some monster design, shooting galleries). On the whole, I really had fun with it.
