The Gallery: Call of the Starseed Part 1 - VR Gameplay HTC Vive
There may be spoilers! This is your only warning.
I enjoyed Call of the Starseed on pretty much every level. My only real complaints about the game is that the beginning is a bit too slow to hook the skeptics and that it's too damn short! Can we have episode 2 now?! Thank you!
For the most part, Call of the Starseed is pleasing to the eye. It's one of the better looking games for the Vive. It aims to try to be photorealistic in VR and doesn't do a half bad job with it.
The character models... are another story. The professor is the best ventriloquist in the world as he can't seem to stop talking yet never moves his lips. My guess is that the bear is supposed to mask his lips moving but it's a bit immersion breaking to see nothing move. He also looks a bit disproportionate to the world and a little off color wise.
I really loved the audio. Both the music tracks and the ambient audio did wonders to set the mood and enhance immersion.
The voice acting was well done as well. Something we haven't seem too much of in the VR market.
Overall, it's just a fun experience. You're essentially taking part in an interactive movie. With a similar duration of 1-2 hours depending on how quickly you want to run through or enjoy the scenery.
I see Call of the Starseed as the prologue chapter to the series. The chapter that raises all the questions and provides none of the answers. Why were we here in the first place? Why are you and your sister obsessed with the beacon? Who is the masked alien dude with the white eyes. What cool new powers do we have? etc, etc...
Hopefully Heart of the Emberstone will start to answer these questions.
Part 2 should be ready by tomorrow.
