Inspired by the SimCity series, Banished, and Stronghold, here's the direction we're thinking of taking:
Kingdoms and Castles is about growing a kingdom from a tiny hamlet to a sprawling city and imposing castle.
Your kingdom must prove its existence in a living and dangerous world. Do the viking raiders make off with your villagers? Or are they stopped, full of arrows, at the castle gates? Does a dragon torch your granary, your people dying of starvation in the winter, or are you able to turn the beast back?
The success of your kingdom depends solely on your skill as a city and castle planner.
City Design
Lay out and expand your town strategically to improve your peasants' happiness and to attract new residents. Make sure your peasants are fed in the winter and healed of plagues. Build churches and taverns to keep them from despair.
Fortify and Defend
The new land you're settling is at risk of viking invasion. These raiders seek to kidnap and kill your peasants, steal your resources, and burn your town. Build walls and towers to defend against the viking threat.
Living World
And it all takes place in a beautiful dynamic world. Clouds dance across the sky, birds soar above the trees. Forests grow and wood cutters can clear cut or manage their forests. Seasons cycle from summer to winter. Waves lap against the shore.
The clouds part, birds fly over your land, viking raiders are spotted on the horizon. All the pieces come together to generate amazing stories of both triumph and loss for your kingdom, but with your wisdom, perhaps your kingdom will prevail.
