The Karma System in Black Desert
A quick overview of the karma system in BDO.
Alt+C let's you flag up to fight other players once you're level 50.
You gain karma through killing monsters. You lose it for killing players while flagged or for killing certain monsters (Horses, Calpheon protesters).
You have a maximum limit of 300k karma and a minimum of -1m. You lose between 30k and 120k karma for killing a player while you're flagged and they're not. The karma loss is decided by the difference between your gearscores. If they're above you by a decent amount you'll only lose 30k. If they're significantly lower geared than you you will lose up to 120k karma.
Being negative has penalties. These include items downgrading upon death, increased xp loss, other players can attack you without flagging first, being attacked by guards in cities, you'll be sent to jail if killed in the desert, increased chance of crystals breaking, the penalties are pretty harsh.
There are a few good places to regain karma. Places with huge mob density and/or low numbers of players (Or geared players) such as Manshas, Hasrah, and Soldiers Grave are great places to lose red status safely.
Finally you can regain karma faster if you have pets with karma gain as one of their skills. I have 3 pets that help me regain karma faster as I like to fight over grind spots. This also helps to fight against karma bombers more effectively.
