Hackers in BDO: Why is it a Problem?
Why are hackers a problem in MMO's?
Hackers delegitimize and devalue the accomplishments and efforts of legit players through massive price inflation and the accomplishment of tasks that should take hours in mere minutes.
In BDO the inflation of prices primarily effects preorders as the fixed marketplace and massive goldsink on preorders prevents the silver from trickling down to other players. In a normal game the inflation of prices would lead to activities done by other players gaining a higher silver/hr rate as items obtained would be sellable for more than before. It would still be a net loss as silver gained is now worth less than before, but overall the economy would not be hurt too badly. Money would be redistributed from the hackers to the average player.
In BDO this is not the case. Hackers and a very small number of extremely rich legit players are the only ones running around with enormous piles of cash. Of the two groups, hackers are the only ones who can recoup any cash spent on a massive preorder within a day or two as their silver per hour dwarfs everyone else's.
This coupled with the preorder system being a massive goldsink for the game means that hackers are able to enjoy both the benefits of having a huge personal pool of silver to draw from, and the lack of competition for huge preorder prices as a legit rich player can't compete for items anywhere near as often as a hacker can.
Hackers are thus able to use their massive amounts of silver to put absurd preorders on items that everyone wants (Such as boss gear and yellow accessories) and normal players can do nothing to compete apart from hoping that the item makes it to the bidphase where it becomes an RNG battle (That hackers compete in 24/7 thanks to the marketplace bot that's part of their hack).
This delegitimizes the accomplishments of players who have put in thousands of hours earning their gear the right way. It also has the effect of devaluing the work done by all players as silver is now worth less, but hourly silver gain has remained the same. Before one might have to grind for 100 hours to afford a 1.5b preorder on a TET Dandelion. Now it's closer to 150-200 hours for that same TET Dande as the preorder prices for several have risen to between 2 and 3 billion silver. For a hacker however it's only an extra 2-3 hours to make up the extra billion silver.
